One early morning while driving to work, Neal's life changed forever after colliding into a car that was broken down on the side of the road. Neal suffered a Burst Fracture, a type of traumatic spinal injury in which a vertebra breaks from a high-energy axial load (e.g., traffic collisions or falls from a great height or high speed) with shards of vertebra penetrating surrounding tissues and sometimes the spinal canal. Dr. Arien Smith performed a two-part surgery which took a total of 14 hours to complete.
